I think Genie can count all those friends on no fingers. The Hype is the most unwelcome news to arrive on our doorstep this morning … but only until a personal courier arrives.

The letter is for me.

The gold and blue stationery, stamped with an elaborate B, opens to reveal:

Yikes! If Alex had a side panel of ingredients, it would read: 100% pure ego.

Mom reads over my shoulder. “Ah. I think that boy likes you.”

This was the same thing she said when I was seven and Leo would open-mouth chew his food to try to put me off my lunch. Reading Alex's note kind of gives me the same woozy-belly feeling.

Now you know: I don't get any of my keen detective skills from Mom.
